Mansfield Fellows in Japan
October 26, 2017
Earlier this month Mansfield Fellows Luke Deckard (U.S. Air Force) and Patricia Sloss (U.S. Department of Defense, shown above) joined young professionals from throughout Asia and the United States for a joint seminar at the International House of Japan. This was the third year Mansfield Fellows have participated in the seminar, which brings young leaders together to explore new ways to address critical challenges facing society. This year the theme was “Forgetting as Part of Remembering” and participants included members of an Asian American Leaders delegation visiting Japan as part of the Kakehashi Project as well as fellows from the Nitobe Leadership Program, the Asia Leadership Fellow Program, and the Mansfield Fellowship Program. Following a lecture by Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, a leading public historian in the Philippines, participants gathered in groups to discuss issues related to the theme and to develop presentations for further discussion.
