Alumni Mansfield Fellow Michael Bosack recently received the State Department’s Meritorious Honor Award in recognition of his “outstanding performance in support of the Political-Military Affairs Unit at U.S. Embassy Tokyo.” Mr. Bosack participated in the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program as a representative of the U.S. Air Force from 2013-2014 before serving as Deputy Chief, Government Relations Branch, Headquarters, U.S. Forces Japan. The award commended his “contributions in managing the U.S.-Japan Alliance and coordinating efforts between the Embassy and U.S. Forces, Japan.” Mr. Bosack also recently authored an article on the significance of the Japan Self-Defense Force deployment to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan. That article, “What Did Japan Learn in South Sudan?,” was published in The Diplomat June 10.
