Mansfield Alumni Fellow Serves in Role at U.S. Consulate General in Osaka
August 9, 2018
Mansfield Fellow Bill Golike, from the twelfth class, served as the Acting Principal Commercial Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Osaka during a prolonged gap between permanent officers. While there, he managed the Commerce Department’s Commercial Service office of five locally hired staff and one junior officer. The Commercial Service Osaka is tasked with increasing U.S. exports of goods and services to the Kansai region, attracting foreign direct investment from the region to the United States, and helping to protect U.S. business interests. Mr. Golike was asked to do this job until the arrival of the next Principal Commercial Officer Jay Biggs, who is a Mansfield Fellow from the thirteenth class.
