Mansfield Fellow Presents Guest Lecture at Sophia University
Earlier this month, MFP No. 21 Fellow Lauren Damme (U.S. Department of Labor) gave a guest lecture to Sophia University undergraduate students studying agricultural economics. The presentation was a discussion of the worst forms of child labor that focused on the connections between child labor and the economics of agricultural supply chains around the world. Students also learned about research and resources publicly available from Ms. Damme’s home agency, the Department of Labor’s Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking in the Bureau of International Labor Affairs. The group discussed what they could do about the problem using this research, both immediately in their daily life, as well as in their future careers. Ms. Damme also was able to share local resources by drawing upon connections she has made through her placement at the Japan International Cooperation Agency to other Japan-based organizations involved in the fight against child labor around the world.
