On March 22, Mansfield Fellow Ian Morrison spoke at a seminar co-hosted by the Mansfield Foundation and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). At the event, titled “How Increased Natural Disasters are Forcing Weather Agencies to Evolve,” Mr. Morrison drew from his 15 years of experience with the U.S. National Weather Service and recent work with the Japan Meteorology Agency. He outlined the responsibilities of national weather agencies, described how U.S. and Japan agencies are evolving their strategies, and examined the results in the fields of disaster risk management and shared atmospheric data.
