U.S. Forces on Okinawa. This week Mansfield Fellow Patricia Sloss (U.S. Department of Defense) discussed “The U.S. Forces Presence and Controversy on Okinawa” at the 45th Platform for International Policy Dialogue, hosted by the Network for Public Private Partnership Crossover in Tokyo. Ms. Sloss explained the history of Okinawa, why there are so many disputes over U.S. military bases on Okinawa, and other issues related to Okinawa and the future of U.S. forces in Japan. Following Ms. Sloss’s presentation, participants engaged in a question and answer session, then broke into groups to discuss key issues and questions raised in her presentation. Ms. Sloss and other members of the 22nd group of Mansfield Fellows will conclude their Fellowship year in Japan later this month.
