MFP No. 20 Visits Shinkansen General Control Center
Earlier this month members of the twentieth group of Mansfield Fellows in Japan visited the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen General Control Center, which is operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central). The Mansfield Fellows learned how JR Central manages everyday operations of the Shinkansen high-speed rail network and how the General Control Center has prepared for operations during earthquakes. JR Central staff (shown above with the Mansfield Fellows) provided the Fellows with a briefing and answered questions about issues including disaster management, the 2020 Olympics, the linear motor cars used in JR Central’s maglev line, and efforts to increase the number of female staffers at JR Central. This is the ninth year JR Central has hosted this tour for the Mansfield Fellows.
