MFP No. 21 Meets in Washington
Last week the twenty-first group of Mansfield Fellows gathered in Washington for a series of meetings in preparation for their Fellowship year. The new Fellows began the week by discussing their individual placement plans for their ten months in Tokyo with representatives of Japan’s National Personnel Authority. They concluded with a full day of orientation meetings, including a working lunch with Ambassador Sung Kim (Special Representative for North Korea Policy and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Korea and Japan) and Joseph Young (Director, Office of Japanese Affairs, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, U.S. Department of State). The new Fellows also heard insights from two alumni Fellows – Martin Koubek (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Department of Transportation) and Dawn Kawasaki (Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of Commerce).
