Mansfield Fellow Joins Emergency Response Exercise

Current Mansfield Fellow Branden Turnbough had the opportunity to visit Iruma Air Base this month and observe an emergency response exercise. The drill coordinated responses to a theoretical earthquake in the Tokyo area, and included prefectural government disaster management teams (Ishikawa and Saitama), the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, city governments, and the Red Cross.

Captain Turnbough has been a field training exercise developer and an instructor at Air Force Officer Training School, and after the drill he prepared a report on the exercises for the Ministry of Defense.

Captain Turnbough delivers his report on the exercises, drawing from his previous experience to recommend improvements to the exercise.
