Mansfield Fellow Discusses U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Policies in Tokyo

On March 5, Mansfield Fellow Tony Nakanishi spoke in Tokyo about nuclear regulatory policies in the United States. Nakanishi, a risk analyst for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Office of New Reactors, provided an overview of risk-informed, performance based regulations and reactor oversight in the United States, discussing how these processes have benefited the public, nuclear plant operators, and regulators. As a member of USNRC’s initial response team to the Fukushima Dai-ichi accident, Mr. Nakanishi briefly discussed his personal experiences from 2011.
